I have moved to Lisbon for three months, largely to take a break from the city I’m from. Lisbon isn’t new to me, and yet, there is so much happening here, so many seeds of life developing and growing, that each visit feels different every time.
New places are discovered, new faces are met, and new tones of myself are felt.
On most days last week, I managed to remember to toss in my sketch book on leaving the apartment, and grabbing other things; keys, sun cream, pens, water. When I did manage to include my sketch book, I was able to capture some moments whilst out in the city. My sketch book has now finished and I am on the hunt for a new one. I am particular about the sketch books I get. Though I need to get drawing again as we are at the start of the week.
What I learnt from my week in drawings, this time round:
We all like to sit with our face in the sun
A quiet place within a city is one’s own temporary sanctuary
We are too often strangers to one another
A conversation can easily be sparked
People like to move in pairs
People walking by are full of stories that we do know
These are my week in drawings:
Next week, I would like to focus more on people and faces. Though I also believe in drawing intuitively, and drawing what you want to in that moment. These all felt very intuitive, and is something I am leaning into in terms of my style.
My artistic approach seems to be going through a responsive stage of intuitiveness. It feels good.
Are you doing anything at the moment that feels intuitive led? How does this feel for you?
See you next week,
Emma
